In order to exploit the potential of the inactivated vaccine the birds must be properly primed with a live vaccine. Highest titres will be obtained when an interval of at least 4-6 weeks is left between the last live vaccine and the inactivated vaccine. Vaccination programs may be simplified by combining inactivated antigens against two or more diseases.
The following graph illustrates the serological response in layers as measured in the VN test after vaccination with a program including live and inactivated vaccines.

Duration of antibody in layers previously primed with live vaccine and injected with inactivated vaccine at 16 weeks
Inactivated vaccines can only be given by injection. The vaccine should be allowed to reach room temperature (15°C – 25°C) before application.
