Vaccines against Avian Metapneumovirus

Vaccines form an important part of an Avian Metapneumovirus (aMPV) control strategy.

Vaccine developments

New developments in the field of aMPV vaccines include the insertion of specific immunogens (such as the fusion- F- glycoprotein) in for example fowl pox virus vector. Vaccination with the experimental vaccine resulted in antibodies against aMPV in turkeys and produced some protection after challenge with aMPV. Successful studies in turkeys after in-ovo vaccination have also been reported.

Subunit vaccines are being developed and evaluated. These technologies may give hope for improved aMPV control in the future.
