Assessment of Protection against Avian Metapneumovirus

There are different ways to measure protection against aMPV infection after challenge.

Protection can be assessed by:

  • the presence of clinical signs in the birds
  • virus re-isolation
  • virus recognition (for example, Immunofluorescence test -IFT; or using RT-PCR)
  • the presence of histological changes in the trachea or nasal tissue (for example by using monoclonal antibodies in immunochemical assays)
  • the ciliostasis test
